On 26th January, 1915 the 1st Royal Irish battalion of 82 Brigade, 27th Division moved into front line trenches at St Eloi near Dickebusch, just to the south of Ypres where they remained until relieved on 28th January. The biggest danger here came from snipers and George Stacpoole fell victim to one when he was shot through the head on 27th January. |
